Hello friends, it’s Mindy here. Just wanted to share some exciting news. One of Aspasia’s mixed media pieces was selected for inclusion in the summer 2018 edition of the book Celebrating Art, which features some of the best student artists in North America. The book will include her work titled Bootiful, shown below, which she completed over the summer. It was done using both watercolor and colored pencil. Keep reading to learn how this piece developed.
Aspasia was inspired to create this piece based on her life experience. While Aspasia was away, I noticed a bunch of crows cawing and hanging around the backyard. Curious what all the fuss was about and hoping to take some nice crow pictures, I headed outside and tried to snap pictures of the crows. I soon discovered a tiny little nest of baby bunnies fully exposed where I had been pulling weeds the day before. Moments later Aspasia came home and I showed her the bunnies. She named them Ron, Lavender, Lilac, and Leo, and declared that she’d build them some kind of shelter but since it was getting late she decided to do it the following day.
The next morning I woke up and made my morning tea. While doing so, I glanced through the kitchen window to find a black cat hovering over the bunny nest. I woke Aspasia up and she went outside to scare the cat away and assess the damages. Only one bunny of the four was found alive. It was Leo she said, although I have no idea how she could tell them apart! She scooped him up and I went to the garage to try to find some kind of shelter for him.
I found one of Aspasia’s old fur-lined snow boots and figured it would make the perfect shelter since the bunny could burrow down in there out of the cat’s reach and stay warm overnight without the snuggles of his siblings. So the boot became the new home for the bunny, at least when Aspasia wasn’t holding him.
You may still be able to order copies of the Summer 2018 edition of Celebrating Art, but should probably act fast since I believe these only go to print once. Order a book

Special thanks to Charlene Collins Freeman, who runs Cloud 9 Art School and who discovered the contest and entered Aspasia since Aspasia has taken a classes from her. We really appreciate how supportive Charlene is and feel so fortunate to have discovered her school.
